Johann (John) Sibenik passed away peacefully after a long illness on October 11, 2018, aged 89. Loving husband to the late Mary (nee Kuhelj) Sibenik; father of John (Mary) Sibenik, Peter (Gillian Lynne-Davies) Sibenik, Rosemary (Ed) Shiller, and Rudy (Joan) Sibenik; grandfather to Diana (Louis) Tsiodras, Matthew (Kara Lodewyks) and Andrew Sibenik, Jasper and Josh Sibenik, Jenny (Skylar Stewart) and Lisa Shiller, and Paul (Louise Bethaz) and Adam Sibenik; step-grandfather to David Shiller; great grandfather to Isabella Tsiodras, and Charlotte Stewart; step-great grandfather to Ashley and Nicole Tsiodras; brother-in-law to Paula Jelen, and uncle to Dorothy and Daniel Jelen. Condolences are also extended to sister Marija Lenarsic, his many nieces and nephews and extended family in Slovenia. Born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on August 10, 1929, John immigrated to Canada following World War II, where he met his future wife, to whom he was devoted even after her death in 2004. He initially worked as a miner in Timmins and as an auto mechanic in Toronto, but spent most of his working life in the construction industry. He took great pride in his craft and enjoyed pointing out buildings in Toronto that he had worked on. His knowledge and skill were broad and highly valued. Even after retiring, he frequently immersed himself in renovation projects in his home and the homes of his children. Friends and family will be received at the Ridley Funeral Home, 3080 Lakeshore Blvd. W on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal (739 Browns Line) on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at 11am. Interment to follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be placed on RidleyFuneralHome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Dorothy Ley Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
