AUDREY LILIAN MORRIS: 1934 - 2017
After a short struggle following a sudden fall, Audrey Lilian Morris (nee Dell), passed away peacefully as the sun began to rise on Feb 12, 2017 at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto at the age of 82. Married to George Morris to whom she was a doting caregiver just as she was to her dad Eric Dell. Loving and ever-helpful mom of Joan Saary (Peter/PJ Maes), and Linda Saary (Ernesto Garza), she will be especially missed by her four grandchildren Calum and Eleri Maes, and Andrea and Gail Garza.
Born in Niagara Falls on July 29, 1934, she obtained her nursing diploma from Hamilton General Hospital in 1956. She worked as a registered nurse in St. Catharines for years. She entered the field of Occupational Health Nursing and ultimately became the site nurse at the Beaver Wood Fibre paper company in Thorold until her retirement - although she continued to be “a nurse” to the end.
In retirement she enjoyed travelling with a particular fondness for Hong Kong, Spain and Mexico. Her bug for travelling began much earlier while she was still in training for nursing and stayed with her over the years. She was as accomplished at playing piano as she was at fishing and loved to be outdoors in a tin boat trolling the waters of LaBrash Lake or playing scrabble and other classic games, regularly making up rules as she went. She’ll be fondly remembered for her famous pineapple fluff and Nanaimo bar desserts, for her boundless energy and sometimes equally boundless tenacity, and her joking nature.
Cremation has occurred. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Michael’s Hospital directed to Trauma-Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (TNICU), or the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health; alternatively to a charity of choice. A celebration of life will occur at a later date, in the spring.
